"Breast Cancer Haven at Home"

Breast Cancer Haven at Home includes a DVD, audio CD and web based information. It was filmed and recorded in our 3 Havens and has been devised by and features Breast Cancer Haven’s therapists and nurses and some of our service users (Visitors) to ensure it is as helpful as possible to all people with breast cancer.

The holistic programme gives practical help on tackling emotional and physical issues that people with breast cancer may experience. It is divided into Mind, Body and Life sections. It begins with a welcome from the actor Amanda Mealing who talks about her own experience of breast cancer; followed by an endorsement from Dudley Sinnett Professor of Breast Surgery at Imperial College London and Consultant Surgeon at Charing Cross Hospital.

With a running time of approximately 2.5 hours the programme is not designed to be watched in one sitting. An overview of the programme helps the viewer determine what parts will be of most help to their particular needs and they can then choose what they want to view or listen to from a menu and ‘dip’ in and out of the programme depending on how they feel. They may also wish to repeat certain parts like Tai Chi  repeatedly.

"Lymphoedema awareness: reducing your risk" (DVD)

This informative film will help you learn more about lymphoedema, an unwelcome consequence of cancer that affects around 25% of people undergoing breast cancer treatment. Unfortunately there are not enough qualified lymphoedema practitioners in the UK, and therefore a great need for information regarding diagnosis and reducing the risk of lymphoedema. With advice and some simple exercises to help reduce the risk of developing lymphoedema, this DVD is useful for anyone with breast cancer and also GPs or breast care nurses to pass on to patients or to learn more themselves. Running time, approximately 88 mins.

"How We Can Help You" (DVD and VHS) - now available

This short film gives a presentation of the services we offer at our Havens including interviews with past and present Visitors, some of our staff, and Professor Dudley Sinnett, Consultant Breast Surgeon. This DVD guides you through what to expect when coming to a Haven and shows footage from our Haven Support Workshop and some of our therapies. Useful for prospective Visitors and their family, friends and also breast care nurses and GPs who may wish to learn more about us. Running time, approximately 16 minutes.
